The Tree of Life from Death [One More Thing Before We Go]

Instead of taking up space under a tombstone after you die, why not try taking up space as a tree? Designer, Gerard Moline, has put forth the Bios Urn, an urn that allows you to grow, even in death: His Bios Urn is a biodegradable urn made from coconut shell, compacted peat and cellulose and inside it contains the seed of a tree. Once your remains have been placed into the urn, it can be planted and then the seed germinates and begins to grow. You even have the choice to pick the type of plant you would like to become, depending on what kind of planting space you prefer.  [via Big Think]  ...

How do you review Ice? [One More Thing Before We Go]

Someone put a recipe for ice cubes up at food.com and you have to love the internet for the reviews people are leaving for it. Here are a couple of my favorites.   This recipe is horrible! Maybe I should have left them in longer than two minutes (the recipe doesn’t say how long to leave them in the freezer so I just kind of guessed) but mine came out all watery. I won’t be making these again.   I harvest my own free-range water, so the idea of putting it in a plastic tray and a commercially made electricity-wasting freezer disgusts me. I prefer nature’s method, waiting until the temperature outside drops below freezing. I’m relieved to notice in the nutritional facts that these delicious cubes are not sodium free. A touch of salt is so important to bring out just the right icy flavor. We make this fabulous recipe so often, we had to buy 30 or 40 bottles of bourbon and scotch to go with it..   Read the rest...

Big thanks to Zack Bunker, for not only bringing back his Project Runway Rundown (so freaking excited), but for also sending us this beyond awesome “Hollywood Street Map.” From the Dorothy Shop site: A street map made up of over 900 film titles including cinema classics such as Lost Highway, On the Waterfront, Jurassic Park, Reservoir Dogs, Carlito’s Way, Nightmare on Elm Street, Valley of the Dolls and Chinatown. The Map, which is loosely based on the style of a vintage Los Angeles street map has its own Hollywood Boulevard and includes districts dedicated to Hitchcock and Cult British Horror movies. 1800s Ghost Moms OR Yay, Photoshop! [One More Thing Before We Go]

Have you ben thoroughly creeped out yet today? No? Well, these ghost mom photographs ought to do the trick. From i09: Even in the late 1800s, getting a confused baby to sit still for a photograph forced otherwise normal parents to behave like lunatics. Sometimes it required the mother to hide herself under a carpet so it looked like their child was sitting upright of his or her own volition. Other tactics involved the parent creeping in the background or inserting a phantom limb into the shot. In any case, these attempts at naturalistic portraits produced anything but.  Go to i09 to see even more creepy...
