Wow. I'm speechless. I actually don't have a problem with bandwagon fans, because everyone needs to start somewhere. And let's face it, people are often drawn to being fans by having a good team. I have legitimate claims to all of my teams. I lived in Pittsburgh for 5 years, and spent 18 years before that growing up in the region, so it makes sense I'm a Steelers and Pens fan. I went to grad school at USC, so I'm can fairly call myself a Trojan. But honestly, what drew my attention to all of these teams initially were the fact that they were good teams. I became a devoted Steelers fan at the back end of 2004, Big Ben's first year when they went 16-2 and to the AFC title game. I returned to the Pens (I was a fan in the late 80s early 90s) during their playoff run in 2007. And I went to USC during the last years of Pete Carroll's dominance of Pac-10 football.

So some of these people you're calling posers might simply be novice fans. I tend to give them the benefit of the doubt. I do think there should be a waiting period before donning a jersey, which is a pretty strong statement of fandom (I've only felt justified in wearing jerseys this year).

Of course, dealing with a team like the Yankees (or in football the Dallas Cowboys), you have a lot of people who could care less about the team, and will never watch again (unless they're in a championship). But hey, they're supporting your team, so why not. At least they're not wearing Red Sox jerseys.

OK... I'm still pissed. Here;s a quiz to determine if you are a closet fan or not...

1) Who won the super bowl in 2008?

2) Tell me who plays first base for the NY Yankees...

3) Who plays goal for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

4) Who sponsors the Red Zone at Steeler games.

5) Who created The Terrible Towel?

These questions are easy and could be answered by most fans. If you can't, then you are a bandwagon fan, that is only there when the team wins and it makes us real fans, sick!

Hello Joe! I am more than gratified that you are filling in for Ryan this week. It's like having a substitute teacher in high school, only better...

I'm going to go on a rant here... but, I must have your opinion.

First off, how do you fell about bandwagon fans? Now that I am living in New York, when the Jets had a chance of making it this year, all of the sudden, everyone everywhere was a Jets fan. Jets jerseys were flying off of the shelves. I so wanted to stop one of these so called fans in the street and ask, do you even know who the quarterback for the Jets is?

I get so outraged over the bandwagon fan. They have no commitment to a team, but yet, will take the day off of work and run and go to their victory parade.

I am a die hard Yankee fan. Again, another team with a ton of bandwagon fans. This year, everyone was about that douche bag Jay-Z and his song "I Love New York." My question is... where were all of these fans when the Yankees didn't make the playoffs last season? I will tell you that I proudly wore my Derek Jeter jersey to work the next day. Now, that they are winning, all of the sudden, everybody is a Yankee fan. The same thing happened with the Jets. Every store in New York City was selling Jets jerseys.

Here's a great social experiment...

Let's stop the next 10 people you see wearing a team jersey, cap, or jacket and ask them a really easy trivia question. Here's what's going to happen... most of them will not know who the starting pitcher, quarterback, or goalie is. In that case, you are a closet fan, a no good douche bag, that thinks it's OK to wear a cap and jersey. In that case, I say GO FUCK YOURSELF!!!!!

WHERE WERE YOU WHEN THE YANKEES MISSED THE PLAYOFFS IN THE 2008 SEASON? I was there! I wore my Jeter jersey with pride to work the next day and got my ass handed to me by every Red Sox and Mets fan there. But you know what? I was happy to do it.

Closet sports fans, are nothing but glorified dousche bags that just want to jump on the bandwagon, when the local team is winning.

I've lived in several cities now, and I've seen so much of it with my own eyes.

Again, like I said, this season in New York City, everyone was a Jets fan. Really? I mean, come on... Their gear was in almost every store, yet if I stop one person wearing their colors, I bet he couldn't tell me who is the quarterback.

The end of my rant is this... be a fan.. Don't be a closet fan. Everyone can tell. Real fans can!

Jeter Power to you and yours!

And go Steelers and Penguins!
