Guess the Random Lyric: You=1; Me=2

I just want to take a moment and say how much I’ve enjoyed playing GtRL with you guys for this past year. What’s great about music is that there is so much good stuff out there that I’ll probably never run out of material for this game.

And what’s great about you guys is that I’m constantly surprised by who you know and don’t know. Answers have come in the afternoon with notes that the guesser had been thinking about it all day. Answers have come in less than two minutes after I post the clue. Answers have come in 10 minutes before the 24-hour deadline. And sometimes answers don’t come in at all to songs that I was sure everyone knew.

You guys seem to love cheesy songs and just about anything by an 80s hair band. Indie music and rap — not so much. But you clean up on standards and R&B.

Seriously, it’s been a musical adventure, which I’ve truly enjoyed going on with you. I love music and I love playing this game with you, so thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

That all said, BabySmiling from “Baby Smiling in Back Seat” guessed correctly that yesterday’s lyric was from “And I Am Telling You” as sung by Jennifer Hudson. And to answer your question, the original Effie was Jennifer Holliday. This song loves them Jennifers.

Now who sang this disco meditation on great music? I’ll again take the original or the 1994 cover artist.

Blow horns you sure sound pretty
Your violins keep movin to the nitty gritty

Guesses in the comments and both Jennifers go epic on one of Broadway’s best songs after the jump:

First Jennifer Holliday:

Now Jennifer Hudson:
