I Wish I Hadn’t Read the Book [Philosophical Monday]
So I finally went to see the final Harry Potter movie last night and …. well it was good. It was fine. Really it was. It was just that throughout the entire affair, I kept on thinking that I would have enjoyed every part of the movie a lot more if I hadn’t read the book.
This was a first for me. Usually I take joy in seeing how books translate into movies. But in this case, it seemed like I was missing many of the lovely surprises that happened in the second half of the book as opposed to anticipating them. For the first time, it felt to me that I had spoiled the movie by reading the book.
Has this ever happened to you? Have you ever come out of a movie wishing you hadn’t read the book first? If so, let me know in the comments.

I enjoyed the movie as well. I saw it on Tuesday. After reading this post I’m happy I didn’t read the last three books. I was saving them for a time when I could ease into the pages without being rushed. However, I’ve seen each and every last movie in the theaters and at least 10 times at home. My kids and I love them.
I cannot think of a book turned into a movie that made me wish I hadn’t read the book before seeing the movie. Now that I think about it The DaVinci Code made me wish I hadn’t seen the movie. The book was so good, and the movie was just ok for me. Ok enough to put me to sleep the first time I saw it.
The DaVinci code was awful. I think what they didn’t understand was that the history was just as important as plot and character. They really needed to up all the historical asides and make us fall in love with the history, so that we could also fall in love with the story. #2cents
