Oh, It’s Tuesday: We’re Baaaack
If we were at an airport, I would run to you in slow motion and swing you around in my arms — that’s how much I missed you all. The good news is that we won’t have to be apart again until the holidays. The bad news is that though I’m happy to be back home, I am seriously missing Hawaii, to the point that I’m wondering if we shouldn’t put a moratorium on going there just to avoid the terrible case of post-vacation blues that we get whenever we come back.
One of the best things about living in LA is that I become more grateful for living here whenever I go other places. For example, when I go home to St. Louis, I wonder how my family puts up with the weather extremes, as I no longer have to deal with being too hot or too cold. For the better part of the year, the weather in LA is just right, and even when it’s in the 90s-100s, it’s nowhere near obnoxious as unbearably humid St. Louis at the same temperatures. When I go to New York, I love the gritty glamour of the city, but tut over that fact that it’s now almost impossible to live in Manhattan unless you’re super rich. So most of time I’m happy to come home from wherever I’m visiting, but Hawaii is different.
Every time we go, it seems that we spend less and less time enjoying our vacation for what it is, and more and more time lamenting that we don’t live in the Aloha State. I love writing by the ocean. My husband loves the state’s friendly vibe. But he’s firmly entrenched in the entertainment industry, and though I now romanticize my many years as a starving artist, I’ve no interest in going back to that life. Being able to pay your bills is sexy. Health insurance is even sexier.
Still, it’s nice to imagine dropping everything and dropping out to move to Hawaii. And it has me wondering where all you guys would live if money and industry weren’t an object. Let me know in the comments!
P.S. — Oh, and give us notes on the new layout. We’re still tinkering with it and would appreciate any and all feedback!
I love the new layout….agree with keldoo about it being super chic and clean. I also really love the color scheme!
I have not traveled enough to really answer this question, but I am going to take a stab anyway. I think if we could check out and money was not an issue, in the US I would move to the Carolinas, preferably North Carolina. But I also covet the beauty of Phoenix event though the heat would kill me. And Seattle would be awesome except for the dreary weather. And if we were talking outside of the US, we'd be on our way to New Zealand or Belize. Huh, guess I don't really know for sure.
Wait, if money was not an issue, I would not live anywhere! I would spend my life traveling from one place to another, settling there for a short period and then heading somewhere else. Yes, that is it!

LOVE the new format! Super chic and clean! Nice job, kiddo.
I'm renting a house in Hawaii for my 40th next year and LOVE to just chill to the point where I melt into the ocean…I could never live there though. They drive too slow!
And I think I would like to live in a number of places including Paris, New York, Amsterdam and Austin. Not necessarily in that order.
Thanks Keldoo. Oh, that's funny. i hate driving and have had passengers tell me that drving w/ me is like driving w/ their grandma. So slow and steady is perfect for me. I still haven't been to Amsterdam or Austin, but their so on the list!

Search bar at the top seems very handy. Format looks good, but I'm undecided about the color scheme. Like that you kept the old menu link glasses.
In the U.S., I'd live in the Pacific NW, Portland or Seattle, or maybe Bay Area.
Elsewhere, Vancouver (sense a trend?), Copenhagen (the Seattle of Europe!), Paris, Florence, London, several Belgian cities…
i AM sensing a trend, hahaha! This comment thread is making me want to explore America more. What's funny is that I thought I'd be like most people in liking San Francisco way more than I like LA, but I felt no tug to move there during my incredibly nice visit. I still haven't been to the Pacific NW or Vancouver — another reason I'm thinking that we might want to put a moratorium on Hawaii for a while…

Welcome home! I enjoy vacations, but I'm a homebody at heart, so I'm always glad to be home. However home, to me, is just being around my bed, my cats and my family. I have no firm attachment to LA. It's just another place I've lived. And I know that we will move elsewhere one day and probably will move again after that. I grew up on the move and I have a hard time imagining life in one place.
The next move will either be to Connecticut or Texas. I'd love to live in Ireland for a few years when the kids are old enough to appreciate and enjoy it.
I love that we are opposites, DebraB. Though, I've been doing some Stamford, Connecticut research lately, since one of my characters is from there.
