One More Thing Before We Go: Crazy Cat Ladies Are Good Marriage Material

Apr 27, 2009 13 Comments by

So my single younger sister refuses to get a cat, b/c she’s so afraid of becoming a “cat lady” and therefore being considered unattractive by the opposite sex. But according to this study, the 10 most cat-friendly cities in America have more single men than single women. Rock on.

I’m not surprised about this new finding, since it’s been my experience that none of my friends with cats had any problems mating. In fact, the only crazy cat lady we know personally, is actually a guy. And yes, he’s single.

The problem sometimes comes when Cat Lady and Cat Guy get together.

One of my friends had 3 cats (one she adopted herself, and two hand-me-downs from her mom) and ended up with a guy with 4 cats (more of a Crazy Cat person than she was). When they moved in together, it was mayhem.

As the years have gone on, the cat population in the house has experienced attrition through aging, and they haven't replaced the cats who have died, so maybe they're not a Crazy Cat Couple after all.

Those statistics could be swayed by the amount of people that died alone while choking on a sandwich and were eaten by their cats…. Methinks these numbers could be skewed… :P

wow. 7 cats. wow. I don't think I would have that attention span.

I've said this a few times, but my husband brought all of our cats (not 7) into our house. I love them all dearly, but I find homes elsewhere for kitties I rescue. He finds his cats good homes too, it just happens he finds that good home in his house. He is a crazy cat guy. I would have no criteria for a partner, other than "must love cats"

I say, if your sister wants a cat, she should get one, be herself and let the universe guide a sweet, cat-lovin man into her life!

ok I am not a social scientist but this study disproves nothing other than there are more single men than single in cat friendly cities. it didn't measure WHO owns the cats. and as someone who lives near San Francisco I think I can safely say although there may be more single men than women that doesn't mean that the single men are down with the … Read Morekitty…if you know what I am sayin'.

If I am still single when I die I will be happy to know that my gravestone will read: at least she didn't have a cat.
