One More Thing Before We Go: Thought Chuck for Oct. 16
.
A Proof of Nerd ID by Charles Cron
According to Chuck Jones, the Warner Bros.’ Wagnerian spoof “What’s Opera, Doc?”, featuring a Valkyrian Bugs Bunny in drag and a Siegfriedian Elmer Fudd intoning “Kiww de Wabbit!”, took 6 times as much time and effort to create as the average Looney Tunes cartoon.
This if my favorite Bugs Bunny cartoon of all time! Glad to see that they worked hard on it.
God I forgot how much I love this cartoon. I’ve always been a much bigger fan of Warner Bros. shorts over Disney shorts. The characters aren’t as goody goody in WB cartoons.
I ended up watching a whole string of those old toons. just now.

More nerd ID trivia: although the cartoon is specifically a parody of Wagner’s 4-opera “Ring of the Nibelungen” cycle, it also contains a great deal of music from other Wagnerian music dramas such as “The Flying Dutchman” and “Tannhäuser.”
My other favorite WB cartoons were always:
“Broomstick Bunny,” where a trick-or-treating Bugs runs afoul of Witch Hazel – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZBksMGKc6U
“Drip-Along Daffy,” with a Wild West Daffy & Porky confronting the roguish Nasty Canasta – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_yDpmvwSrs
“Fool Coverage,” where Daffy sells Porky an insurance policy for $1 million in the event he gets a black-eye “as a result of a stampede of wild elephants in your home between 3:55 and 4:00 p.m. on the Fourth of July during a hailstorm” – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TttpYM-69o0
“Deduce, You Say,” with a Sherlockian Daffy and Watsonian Porky on the trail of the Shropshire Slasher – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYFTT5kvgAQ

That was just mean, Charles. Why would you post those links? I’ve got work to do!
So do I, but at this point in the week regressing to childhood is so much more productive on a psychological and emotional level, I couldn’t resist.
Here’s another one which always cracked me up called “Super Snooper,” with Daffy as a hard-nosed film noir gum-shoe interrogating a Veronica Lake/Gene Tierney-like femme fatale: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcdbqZNnJm4
Gag to watch for: “She’s got that old ball-n-chain look in her eyes…!”
