Panthers and Dragons and Elephants — Oh My! -Procrastinate on This [BEST OF FaN]
Still can’t afford Cartier, but I also still love this ad…
I’m not saying that the French are better at crafting mesmerizing images than we are, I’m just saying that this Cartier ad had me at “elephant carrying the Taj Mahal on its back.” Thanks to Gudrun Cram-Drach, whose French husband worked on this spectacular project, for sending this along.
This is one of the best ads I’ve ever seen in my life. It’s breathtakingly beautiful and the best use of CGI in a long time. I’m impressed and inspired. Thanx T.E. for posting and Gudrun and tell your hubby, I said this is beyond brilliant.
Thanks for the nice comments about it :)
Talking about what happens in this commercial, there is something insteresting about the plane…
It is in this commercial because the aviator who was flying this plane, a brazilian named Alberto Santos-Dumont, once told to Louis Cartier about how difficult it was to use a pocket watch while flying. So Cartier invented for him the very first watch, the one you wear on your wrist.
I love that plane story. It’s funny how many of the most lucrative ideas started out as practical solves.
Wow, that is phenomenal. I’ve never wanted to buy anything from Cartier, but now I kinda want to.
Thanks! I’ll pass along your comments :) Apparently the imagery tells the story of Cartier… from his start in Russia to fighting dragons in China to flying an airplane in India to the flagship store in Paris… or something like that. It was directed by Bruno Aveillan, who is known for his cinematic commercials, hubby was animation director.
Now if only I could afford Cartier……I’d say “Screw the jewels, I’m going to go hop on the back of an elephant!”. But truly, it’s a beautiful commercial, I definitely see it winning awards!
