Philosophical Monday: 2 1/3 Movies Watched This Weekend
So somehow in between all the parties, CH and I somehow managed to fit in a bunch of movies this weekend. Here are my reviews:
The Day the Earth Stood Still: Really vague Global Warming message not so cleverly disguised as an action film. But it’s very pretty, and Keanu Reeves’ severely limited acting skills are thankfully never really called upon. Jennifer Connelly is also very pretty and seemingly as a private challenge to herself while dealing with such wooden material and non-Oscar-winning co-stars uses her eyes to express every single emotion that she has in this movie. Well-paced (I didn’t fall asleep) but totally skippable.
Fred Claus: Why was this movie made? Why was this movie made? Why was this movie made? I kept on asking myself for the entire half hour of it that I managed to stay awake before falling asleep. When I woke up CH said that I didn’t miss anything.
Slumdog Millionaire: I don’t want to say too much about this movie, because I loved it terribly and want you to see it yesterday. But think about this on during our Philosophical Monday: All of the moments of your life do add up to something and the final product just might blow your mind.
Also I want to say that this is probably my favorite movie of 2008 so far, and definitely the best ending credit sequence of the year.
Did you guys see anything interesting this weekend?
I, too, saw the Day the Earth Stood Still. The parts of the movie that stayed true to the original were okay. But during the rest, I just kept asking myself…why? If you wanted to make a movie where people are chased on foot by helicopters, couldn't you have found a better vehicle than trying to disguise it as a remake?
Then we re-watched Love Actually. Sigh. Love that movie.
I could seriously rewatch "Love Actually" over and over again. It's becoming one of my favorite Christmas movies.
The love scene between Laura LInney and Rodrigo Santoro, when her cell phone keeps going off is so heartbreaking. I love it!
Reading this blog made me sad…..I remember what it was like to go to the movies (pre-Sekou that is). Alas, we have not been to the movies in forever!
