Philosophical Monday: Coming (Back) to America

Well, by the time you read this, I will be on an aeroplane and traveling back to the States, specifically California, whose sunny environs I miss terribly. I had a great time in Belgium and London. Did and saw so many things that I will probably be talking about for years to come.

Also, though I was sad not to be in America for the most historic election of my lifetime (so far), it was so insane to be over here. EVERYBODY seemed to want to talk about the election and Obama, from the Afghani that sold me my London converter to the Belgian that picked us up from the airport. There is so much excitement and funnily enough, impatience for him to get started. You can almost hear CNN Europe wailing, “Do we have to wait a whole 2 more months for change?”

I’m a little exhausted now, but I will try to fit in a few more travel logs this week. After a challenging time getting into London on Saturday, we squeezed a ton of sightseeing into Sunday before heading back to Brussels, so that we could catch our flights this morning.

But I will say this: Maybe going to not one but two countries that highly value drinking was a good thing. It was difficult — and I mean extremely difficult — for most of the trip, but by the time I was offered champagne in Eurostar first class (long story that, will explain later in the week), I was suddenly okay with just drinking orange juice. So there’s that…

Like I said, more travel logs coming later in the week. But for now, enjoy Monday’s blogs as they’re all sorts of wonderful. And I will finally see you in real time tomorrow.
