Procrastinate on This! [Friday Edition]

Hulloo, Party People!

First of all, did you miss us or are we doing something super-right? Because we’re having one of our best hits weeks ever here at dear old FaN. So thank you, thank you, thank you for all the love. 2012 is already off to a fantastic start.

Click on the pic for even more smartphone user survey results. Apparently we're just ridiculous.

Other than that, I just wanted to say that you should come back on Monday for a very inspirational speech from moi, which will hopefully help you get your writing kickstarted for the year to come. And then come back again the week after that, because I’m finally going to announce the second book details. Woo-hoo!

Until then, do avail yourself of this extra-lovely batch of procrastination:

1. Apparently Microsoft is developing a holodeck. Wha???? I think I just had a nerdgasm in my pants. [The Mary Sue]

2. Seth Godin points out re the argument “it’s always been that way” …. 1) in most cases (especially religion and culture) no it hasn’t, 2) everything in our created world is only a few generations old, and 3) the only guarantee is that nothing will stay the way it is right now forever. Basically, don’t assume the future, based on the past unless you want to get burned. [Seth’s Blog]

3. No hyperbole: this is the best idea for a surprise birthday party that I have ever scoped. Delia Hauser is officially my hero-genius. [Martha Stalwart]

4. You know how we all feel now about 20th century medical practices like lobotomies, radical mastectomies, and wire hanger abortions? Apparently, that’s how our 22nd century decedents will feel about unscheduled childbirth, chemotherapy, blood donation, and waiting for someone to die to receive an organ transplant. Trust, the full list is even completely fascinating and totally worth reading. [i09]

5. Currently on a new year’s diet, but want to stay social? Consider downloading this yumPower app, which allows you to eat healthier in restaurants no matter what your health constraints. [Gizmodo]

6. Is it time for Grand Theft Auto to put out a game with a female lead already? I know this would be the only way I myself would ever agree to play GTA. [Jalopnik]

7. Cue the sex and violence. Here’s the trailer for the upcoming season of SPARTACUS, which premieres January 27th on STARZ!
