Procrastinate on This! Senior Hip Hop Choir
You’re either going to really hate this or really love this. On one hand I feel that the seniors are being exploited for a joke and that’s sad. On the other hand, old white people singing hip hop (really badly) is pretty damn funny. An ethical dilemma ensues. To laugh or not to laugh? That is the question that you must answer for yourself below. Either way, big shout-out to fellow Smithie, Kemi I for posting this on her Facebook page.
At least they looked like they were enjoying themselves, which counts for something in my book.
For a better and more profound look at seniors performing out-of-their-comfort-zone songs, check out the documentary Young@Heart. It follows the Massachusetts-based group of the same name (with an average age of around 80) that sings songs by the likes of Sonic Youth, The Clash, Coldplay and Talking Heads for sold out audiences. The footage of the early rehearsals where they attempt to tackle these difficult (particularly for them) songs is fascinating, and the overall story about the group and its members is quite touching. Plus, they're actually pretty good. I just saw it a couple nights ago and now I'm kinda dying to see them in person.
