I can’t decide if Johnny Depp looks great in this trailer for the upcoming Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland remake or if he’s just trying too hard now. What say you?

About the author

In addition to running Fierce and Nerdy, Ernessa T. Carter is the author of 32 CANDLES, a romantic comedy that is totally worth buying.

Yeah, a skosh over the top, but it's expected from him at this point, no? It's sorta like how he went wackadoodle on Captain Jack.
Regardless, I am super dooper excited to see it!

I'm on board! He doesn't look great as in "attractive," but he looks great as in "just like the Mad Hatter."

Except… what's with the casting of Alice? She's supposed to be a little girl, not old enough to read books without pictures in them. Not a late teen dressed as a little girl.

I know, right! I can hear the movie execs deciding to capitalize on the chemistry between Alice and the Hatter by upping the girl's age — b/c “sex sells”Annoying …

yeah, alice was "7 and a half exactly" in the books… but i actually like the casting of Alice, because Alice was a very very mature 7.5 year old. And 20 nowadays is more like 15, maturity-wise. So it almost evens out, in my opinion.

I actually think they cast the role more for that actress than for her age. She's classically gorgeous and very Alice-like.

As for the film in general, it seems over the top, but it could MAYBE work… Fingers crossed.
