Thursday, Thursday

So the night before last, I went to bed at 1am and got up at 6am. And my mind was racing so terribly that I wouldn’t even have gotten that much sleep if not for Kalimba’s Breathing Exercise. So if you, too, are plagued by racing thoughts at night, do check out her blog post if you haven’t already.

That all said, it’s Thursday! Let’s break out the entertainment blogs.

But before we do, wanted to give you a heads up on the Top 5 things I downloaded from I-Tunes this week. And just in case you’re thinking of skipping over this section, just remember, disinterest in new music is one of the Four Horsemen of Your Old-Age Apocolypse. Don’t become a granny before you have to. Top 5 after the jump.

1. Angela Desveaux – “Hide From You” – former countryish adds a hard guitar, and becomes somebody I would actually listen to. Good job.

2. Detektivbyran – E18 Album and Wermland – Now I can’t pronounce this Swedish outfit’s name or even half of their songs, but this is the best writing music discovery that I’ve made all month — maybe all year. I think their music is best described as industrial toy piano, and it pretty makes me believe in gnomes. Especially worth downloading: “Life/Universe” – “Hus vid havet” – “Nattoppet” – “E18”

3. Common Market – “Winter Takes All” – Serious hip-hop track but not tedious. Why am I just discovering this guy? See! That’s why you should always be on the lookout.

4. Tricky – “Cross To Bear” – I’m a little agog that Tricky has managed to maintain this level of brilliance for all of these years. I hit the “Buy Song” button before even 10 seconds of tease had passed. Really different, and completely irresistible in my opin.

5. Today’s KTW vs ETC track. What’s that, you ask? Come back at 9:30 to find out.

Honorable Mentions: I’m not a huge fan of covers. But I adore Nicole Atkins, and her taste her new Nicole Atkins Digs Other People’s Songs EP is totally worth the $4. And her “Crystal Ship” is especially rokken dokken.
