Weekly Habit: Habit (Finally) Achieved
So don’t drop dead of shock or anything, because I know that it’s been a while since I’ve been able to say, “Yes, I kept a weekly habit.” But I actually managed to keep last week’s and only read new authors.
Sadly, between running around, posting to Fierce and Nerdy, and sleeping off the dot in my womb, I had very little spare time for reading. But what time I did have was spent with Hick, the wonderful debut novel by an L.A. writer named Andrea Portes. Hick is basically the tale of a 13-year-old runaway, and let me tell you, it’s been a while since I’ve been so scared for a literary character. Unfortunately Hick is not available on Kindle (yet?), but it’s definitely worth checking out the next time your at a bookstore, are looking for a quick-but-impactful read on Amazon.
Next up on my “new to me” list The Accidental Time Machine by Joe Haldeman and Band Fags by Frank Anthony Polito. I’ll let you know how those go.
But this week, I’ve got a weekly habit inspired by a phone conversation from Belgium with Delia. I had just had the worse day, and had just decided to settle for a limited edition of Fierce and Nerdy, after spending hours trying to get the shitty wireless connection in my room to work, and the only thing I was more sick of than the situation was complaining about it — which of course I complained about to Delia.
Delia surprised me by suggesting a Maya Angelou tactic of writing down all of your blessings — I mean ALL of your blessings — not just the big ones. And every time you go to complain, refer back to that list. Somehow the act of actually writing down your blessings works where just trying to think positive thoughts.
So I’m going to tackle the list tomorrow and I’ll tell you where it takes me on the not-complaining front next week.
Til then, stay positive — but not too positive. It’s a thin line between sunny and annoying. :)
Hey, there!
Thanks for checking out my book. I see from your post below that you’re a DAYS OF OUR LIVES fan. I hope you enjoy all the references I’ve thrown into my novel.
Let me know your thoughts…

Most definitely. So glad you’re on Kindle. Though, the DOOL post was actually written by another writer. But I was a fan in junior high and high school, so looking forward to the refs for sure.
