Dear Thursday: Telenovellas and iPads
So yesterday, I woke up with one determination in my head. I early adopted the iPod. My husband early adopted the iPhone. The only reason that I didn’t early adopt the MacBook Air was b/c I had sworn not to get another computer until I got a book deal — and even with that vow verily given, I was sorely tempted.
But I promised myself that I would not early adopt the Apple iPad. Yesterday, while I got ready for my breakfast date, which would take place during Apple’s announcement, I promised myself this. Then I went up front and told my husband that we COULD NOT early adopt the iPad. I told him we needed to be strong and prove that we’re not hopelessly Cult of Mac.
So of course this is all to say that I’m totally going to early adopt the iPad. I want it so bad I could spit. I look at my Kindle now and just shake my head b/c it’s basically “dead gadget walking” until the iPad is released. That’s all.
Oh, and one more thing. I am in complete agreement with this article about how American TV needs to stop killing their programs with endless seasons. It’s cruel and unneeded, and I would be so much more willing to adopt new programs if I knew that they had a firm final destination. Also, how cool would it be to hire someone like Joss Whedon to executive write just one or two season concepts. And I would totally be willing to watch those kinds of programs on my iPad. That’s all — for real this time.
I know how you feel – you don't want to be part of the Mac sheeple , but their stuff is just too damn good. This murders the Kindle, crushes the netbooks, and I dare say laptops should be worried.

Frankly, they could call it the iDouche and I would still want it. Who cares what they call it (I mean other than the entire blogiverse) as long as it's freaking awesome.
Also, I loved this Jezebel piece, which point out that we'll be able to read comics on it. COMICS! Oh, the lust is overwhelming! http://jezebel.com/5458342/5-things-that-will-mak…
No iDouche yet, but here's the original iPad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsjU0K8QPhs&fe…

It looks cool, cool enough to replace my Macbook Air, but it does not say anything about being able to use word processing software. So alas, no iPad. I could not make a real argument for needing an iPhone, a Macbook Air AND an IPad.

I can wait. There will be another one and another one and another one.
Yeah, but I was given the first iPod and it changed my life! It's smart to wait, but I like change when it come to technology.

You will be able to buy iWork apps for $10 each, so Pages will be the word processor on the iPad. Also, it will have 140,000 other apps to choose from, some of which will be word processors. I'm sure Final Draft will do a version now that there will be real keyboards involved. For now, there is only this to edit FD files:
Screenplay: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/screenplay/id32241…
Now that is a whole different story. I wonder how much my Macbook Air would go for on Ebay.
hahaha!

I've been begging my husband for the ipad but he's got me on hold with purchasing new toys.
I agree with you about American tv being broken. Sucks for me because I live here. Good for my daughter because she gets to watch Dora, Diego, Wonder pets……
Yes, I watch an awful lot of British TV, and I love that we eventually get new Doctor Whos and that Spaced was only on for a couple of seasons.
Actually, I was thinking about it and there is one show that I love (yes, it's my very own guilty pleasure) and that is True Blood. However, if you look closer, even though it's an American show, most of the cast is European…….

And what exactly is wrong with the cult of Apple? :p Just kidding- in all seriousness though, I'm looking forward to it as well, I'm just a bit disappointed that it's running the iPhone OS instead of a light version of Snow Leopard. Maybe that was just wishful thinking on my part, but man it would've been awesome to have something more akin to a hackintosh netbook but with the official Apple hardware/software behind it. Oh well, guess I'll just do my best to stave off my rampant desire for another shiny new Apple product and wait for iPad 2.0 :)
Well, I'm not ready to give up my MacBook air yet, but for a student, I imagine a tablet that you can both word process and read on would be ideal. We might be done with textbooks by 2015. Can you imagine!
