One More Thing Before We Go: No Berry for Barry
So one of the biggest news items of the past weekend, was that Barack Obama might have to give up his BlackBerry, b/c it’s really not secure and also might violate some presidential email sunshine policies. My thought is that a few years from now, B will be brought up on ethics violation charges, when it’s discovered that he’s been harboring a secret BlackBerry for corresponding with family and friends. I mean that’s what I would do in a quick, unblinking second. Please don’t ever, ever ask me to give up my iPhone.
Our Fierce and Nerdy contributor, Monique, who happened to intern for Rahm Emanuel during the Clinton years (I’m sure she’s been getting a lot of questions about that lately) was struck by how isolated President Clinton had become, b/c he was not really allowed to truly interact with real people due to security concerns. I don’t think this is necessarily a good thing. I know that a lot of people are saying, giving up personal email is a sacrifice that comes with the job, but cutting a president off from all communication that the American people don’t have access to seems like a really good formula for creating a literally and figurtively “out of touch” president.
But what do you guys think? Should Barry have to give up his Berry? Will that play on words ever get old? Will I keep on using it, even if it does get old? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.

I don't know about you guys, but I get close to 100+ emails every day, and I'm just a Foreign Sales Supervisor – but this man just became Leader of the Free World, so I doubt he'll even have time to CHECK his emails much less answer them.
Still, one must always be available to pick up the kids from soccer if Michelle is stuck doing whatever it is first ladies do (fight drugs? fight for universal healthcare? promote literacy?)

The blackberry isn't the problem – they have encryption software that will make it secure. The communications aren't a problem – they have a process for getting written docs from the prez after 12 years. The problem is the massive amounts of email and spam that he gets already. If the big O would let a staffer filter the email, reducing it to the important "have-to-have-it-now" messages, it would be fine. But then, you're putting a lot of pressure on a staffer!
