Procrastinate on This: Friday Edition [March 18, 2011]

So I might leave the house to catch PAUL this weekend, but other than that, it’ll be another weekend spent indoors. Really March was just one long water tread til SUCKER PUNCH, which won’t be hitting theaters until next week, so let the thumb twiddle continue. Meanwhile I’ll start marking down the days to the premiere of DR. WHO. Have I mentioned that I’m real glum about the dearth of good sci-fi on American TV right now?

1.  In a crappy mood? This “Stuff to Watch When You’re in a Crappy Mood” list will get you out of it. 100% guaranteed. [Angry Black Lady Chronicles]

2. Christina Katz reminds us that it’s totally okay to actually want things … and then she gives us some great advice about how to go about wanting the things we want. Every writer should read this post yesterday. [Christina Katz ~ Empowering Writers]

Jezebel has a nice remembrance of my favorite sci-fi writer, Octavia Butler for Women's History Month. Click on the pic to read.

3. Oooh, Salman Rushdie has a possible series on deck with Showtime. Yes, seriously. Thanks to Ryan Dixon from “The Ryan Dixon Line” for the h/t! [The Independent]

4. If you thought my placebo post from earlier in the week was fascinating, this RadioLab piece will BLOW YOUR MIND. Thanks to friend of FaN, Layla Riviera for passing this along. [RadioLab]

5. If you’re like me, you’re finding it hard to decide where your money and volunteer efforts will be most valuable in the case of the ongoing crisis in Japan. This guide will help you out. [Jezebel]

6. So I kind of want to see this LARRY CROWNE, just b/c I can’t remember the last time I saw a romantic comedy about two middle-to-lower-income people over 40 falling in love. Maybe that Clint Eastwood-Meryl Streep movie, THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY, back in the 90s? Wow, yeah, we should probably support this.
